Prospect Summary

RJ Sneed II 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • National top-200 recruit and All-American
  • Totaled 100-plus receptions in final three seasons in high school

System:

  • 2022 projected role: Starting X-Receiver

Pros: RJ Sneed has been a solid and dependable receiver. He alternated between outside and slot alignment—66% of the time he worked out of the slot last season. He’s aware of the spacing available to him based on route selection. He locates and settles into soft spots in zone coverages. A reliable hands-catcher, Sneed reels passes in with his soft pair of mitts. He has an innate ability to track passes and make impressive catches downfield. He’s a more than willing stalk blocker in the run game. His vertical salesmanship creates ample opportunities to snap routes either inside or outside. His solid play strength allows him to fight through arm tackles to gain more yards after the catch. I like his frame and arm length, as he presents a solid catch radius.

Cons: RJ Sneed has good speed but is not a burner. His breaks at the top of route stems lack sharpness. He rounds his routes instead of planting and cutting. He will be a 24-year-old rookie. As a result, I’m not sure if there is any room left for physical maturation. Some NFL teams do not view older prospects highly. Sneed is not a versatile prospect—he does not carry the football or return kicks and punts. This could limit his potential to become an impact player. Odds are not in his favor to have a rare sixth-year breakout campaign. Showcasing more special teams value will be helpful for his draft stock.
