Kyren Lacy 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Louisiana Lafayette transfer

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Scheme versatile
  • 2022 projected role: Part of talented rotation until he carves out a specific role.

Pros: Kyren Lacy is a big-bodied receiver that has surprising quickness in his releases. Lacy shows good foot-fire at the snap that throws defenders off rhythm and he is able to get into his route. Into his route, Lacy shows good speed in that he can maintain the separation that he created in his release to show himself open for the quarterback. Lacy also shows to be a plus-level receiver in contested-catch situations. There are multiple instances where he is able to adjust to the pass and make a contested catch even with a defender in his proximity.

Cons: The flashes that Kyren Lacy has shown have been high-level plays, but there needs to be a bigger sample size. This past year, Lacy caught 22 passes for 300 yards, which is moderate at best. This year, Lacy is transferring from a Group of Five program to a high-level Power Five SEC program where the competition will be significantly better. I’m expecting a learning curve for Lacy where he will have to adjust to game speed and competition, but he seems to play the game with the passion and intensity that is needed to improve.
