Prospect Summary
Malik Heath 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Background:
- Mississippi State transfer
System:
- Scheme tendencies: Spread
- 2022 projected role: Vertical field stretcher
Pros: It becomes evident very quickly that Malik Heath’s strength is his ability to stretch the field vertically. Heath appears to be a blazer that has the speed to take the top off of any defense. Heath has easy speed that is deceptive for defenders to gauge which allows him to get on top of them. At Mississippi State, Heath was used as the big-play threat and I expect the same role for him at Ole Miss. In this Ole Miss offense, I expect Heath to become one of the better deep play threats in the entire SEC.
Cons: Can Malik Heath become a complete receiver? At Mississippi State, he ran only a couple different routes. Heath has good size that could support him being a true No. 1 receiver. With Heath’s frame, he should be able to work the middle of the field. At Ole Miss, I believe that Heath will run a more diverse route tree and have the opportunity to prove that he can become more than just a vertical threat. Overall, this should be one of the more intriguing transfers in the SEC and there is great potential for Heath to have good production in the Ole Miss offense.
