Jermaine Burton 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Five-star receiver that originally played for Georgia for two seasons
  • Transferred to Alabama after the 2021 season

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Spread
  • 2022 projected role: No. 1 receiver who can align in multiple positions

Pros: Jermaine Burton shows to be a savvy route-runner. At the top of routes, he does a good job of selling defensive backs on a direction and then breaking the opposite way. Burton does a good job of sinking his hips in and out of breaks to smoothly change directions. After locating the ball, Burton does a good job attacking it in the air with his hands to secure the pass. He doesn’t mind going up for the contested catch to make the acrobatic play. Burton shows to be a high-IQ route-runner that can align in multiple receiver positions and is a threat to get open wherever.

Cons: After watching Jermaine Burton’s film, I do have questions about his down-the-field speed. Burton does a good job with his release and getting vertical up the field, but I question his ability to separate from receivers on the deeper portions of the field. Also, with the ball in his hands, Burton is inconsistent making the first defender miss—he isn’t a receiver that I would necessarily call explosive at this point but he is smooth. Another issue that seems to pop up is Burton securing passes. He seems to be a natural hands-catcher, but there are the occasional concentration drops that he can improve on.
