Prospect Summary

Jadon Haselwood 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Suffered a torn ACL in the spring of 2020, costing him the majority of the season
  • Transferred to the Razorbacks after three seasons of play with the Oklahoma Sooners
  • Caught game-winning 22-yard touchdown in Georgia 3A state title game with 0:04 left

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Diverse run-heavy offense, featuring a lot of quarterback power and aggressive downhill rushing
  • 2022 projected role: Starting WR

Pros: Jadon Haselwood offers the upside of a prized recruit—you can see his ability to play the football and physically overpower defensive backs when he’s targeted. The opportunities at Oklahoma may have done him a disservice too, as Haselwood would benefit from playing with appropriate timing to allow the design of the routes to open throwing windows. I did feel as though he meshed well with Caleb Williams once Williams was inserted as the starting quarterback, giving a peek at what he could be with a passer who appropriately executes the offense as called. While he is not immune to drops or misplays of the football, his best receptions come with strong concentration to allow him to elevate or go down low to dig out the football—even doing so in contested situations. His physicality shines against defenders in the contact window as well. He’s been able to create added distance for himself as a target by playing physically and bumping defenders off their center of gravity. I saw significant success running routes that fold across the middle of the field, allowing him to run to space and track the football simultaneously.

Cons: The most prominent question I have with Jadon Haselwood is rooted in his explosiveness. He appears to be more of a one-speed runner who will not threaten athletic corners vertically, allowing them to sit on his routes and crowd him at the catch point. There have been some frustrating misplays of the football on his resume as well, which he cannot afford as a possession receiver who is not going to be granted a lot of extra room at the catch point to ensure he’s cleanly catching the ball. Production has yet to meet potential for Haselwood as well and he’s going to have a hard time injecting enthusiasm until he posts production with consistency on the field. To this point, Haselwood has not topped 40 receptions or 400 yards in any of his three seasons in a wide-open Oklahoma offense. I can see the upside and physical appeal to him playing at the next level, but at some point, things have to come together—and now he’s headed to a very run-heavy offense. Can he successfully fulfill the Treylon Burks role in the Razorbacks’ offense?
