Moro Ojomo 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Named preseason Second Team All-Big-12
  • Has contributed in 38 career games, making 25 starts

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Multiple fronts
  • 2022 projected role: Starting IDL

Pros: For a big defensive lineman, Moro Ojomo possesses a lot of good athletic traits. At the snap, Ojomo can quickly get out of his stance and shoot his hands to engage with the offensive lineman. This allows him to establish the line of scrimmage and gives him a good opportunity to maintain his position along the line of scrimmage. Ojomo can also use his quickness at the snap to shoot gaps. Ojomo has the ability to quickly get into gaps and then manage to get skinny to get backfield penetration. Considering his size, Ojomo is a good interior defensive lineman that can become very disruptive when he is aligned in the right alignments along the front.

Cons: Moro Ojomo’s deficiencies as a defensive lineman stem from his positional alignment. At Texas, Ojomo aligns everywhere from a 1-technique to a defensive end. I’ve noticed that Ojomo is much less effective at stopping the run when he has to play in between the center and guard. In this alignment, he usually gets double-teamed and it appears that he just isn’t strong enough to hold the line of scrimmage. This results in Ojomo trying to spin out of blocks and giving up gap integrity, which leaves holes in the defense. Ojomo would benefit from being put more on the edges of the defense where he can use his athleticism and the strength component is not as big of a factor.
