Justin Eboigbe 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Has contributed in more than 30 games

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Multiple fronts
  • 2022 projected role: Starting DE in Alabama’s odd front package

Pros: Justin Eboigbe’s plus traits derive from his build. Eboigbe has a prototypical build for a 3-4 defensive end with a well-proportioned frame and appears to have really good arm length. Eboigbe uses his arm length to be able to play the run well. At the snap, Eboigbe does a good job shooting his hands to get control of the offensive lineman and put himself in a position to shed the block if the ball carrier comes his way. There are times that Eboigbe executes textbook lock, peek, and shed maneuvers along the line of scrimmage to be a reliable run defender. Eboigbe is a plus-level run defender that with an elevated role should become one of the key pillars of this Alabama run defense.

Cons: The downside of Justin Eboigbe’s game comes from what seems to be just a lack of being a dynamic athlete. As a pass rusher, Eboigbe has the ability to use his strength to condense the pocket but not enough to threaten the quarterback. On the edges, Eboigbe doesn’t show to have exceptional lower-body fluidness to turn the corner on offensive linemen and get to the quarterback. When Alabama asks Eboigbe to run twists and stunts, he is better served as the first defender to go through so he can open up a lane for the second man to get through. Overall, Eboigbe needs to improve on how he can be an effective defender on passing downs, whether by adding more hand combat moves to his arsenal or looking for ways to win easier on twists and stunts.
