Marcus Harris 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Three-star recruit

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: 3-4 base
  • 2022 projected role: Starting DT

Pros: Marcus Harris has endured a physical change—his weight has increased from 279 last pre-season to 294 currently. This will help him handle double teams and potentially two-gap responsibilities. He showcased an ability to defeat reach blocks with quickness and physicality last season. His upper-body strength and build allowed him to stack, peek, and shed blocks in the run game. He has a solid motor and will chase plays down from the backside. He operated best as a single-gap penetrator, focused on manning/containing a solo gap.

Cons: Marcus Harris did not hold up well at the point of attack in the run game, especially on double teams. His lower body can use some added weight and strength to anchor better. I was not impressed by his snap anticipation or quickness. Coming off the ball quicker would allow him to engage and penetrate at a quicker pace. Though his motor and effort were solid last season, I would like to see better energy to fight through blocks after the initial move failed. His hand counters to deconstruct and disengage blocks were raw. Deploying more than one rush move increases the difficulty for offensive linemen to effectively win their reps.
