System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Zone rushing scheme
  • 2022 projected role: Starting center

Pros: Grant Gibson has exceptional football character and leadership traits. He was an athletic defensive tackle that found his way to the center position and has thrived. Gibson is explosive and agile, which is a major asset for the NC State zone rushing attack. His ability to reach block and get to difficult landmarks is exceptional. He is smooth and controlled in space and can be trusted on longer pulls and hitting blocks on the second level. Gibson features a dense frame and low center of gravity with built-in leverage that allows him to anchor in pass protection. He competes to get his body in position and stay square to blocks. Gibson does well to take advantage of favorable angles and clear space. He has terrific lateral quickness and is tough to get around in pass protection. Gibsons is a smart football player that is capable of making line calls and always looks for work. His ability to hinge, pivot, and adjust in pass protection is outstanding.

Cons: Gibson has a stubby build with pedestrian length. He’s likely a center-only player in a zone rushing scheme, so he’s probably a scheme-specific prospect that lacks positional versatility along the offensive line. While he’s been an effective blocker for North Carolina State, will he be able to hold up in the trenches in the NFL given his lack of mass and length? There are instances against top competition where his lack of ideal physical traits is limiting.
