Darrian Dalcourt 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • First-year starter in 2021

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Scheme versatile
  • 2022 projected role: Starting center

Pros: Darrian Dalcourt appears to have a prototypical build, being well proportioned throughout his frame. He has good lower-body thickness that assists him in multiple phases of his game. In pass protection, Dalcourt shows to have good body control, allowing him to maneuver laterally effectively to pick up stunts and blitzing defenders. Dalcourt also appears to be strong in his core, which allows him to contour his body in difficult positions to sustain blocks. Dalcourt shows to be a good athlete and has the ability to be a plus-level blocker in pass protection.

Cons: Darrian Dalcourt’s deficiencies as a blocker come as a run blocker. Dalcourt shows good athleticism and makes good initial contact with defenders, but he does not sustain his blocks. This appears to happen because Dalcourt gets too aggressive. Dalcourt’s aggressive nature makes him lunge for defenders, throwing him off balance and losing his base to sustain blocks. This is a very fixable trait. If that gets corrected, he has the opportunity to be one of the better interior offensive linemen in this draft class.
