Layden Robinson 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • In 2019, earned Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year and the Freshman Strength Award
  • Received the Offensive Toughness and Offensive Aggie Award for strength and conditioning following the 2021 season

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Zone run scheme, spread passing
  • 2022 projected role: Second-year starting RG

Pros: Layden Robinson features a stocky and thick build with plenty of power throughout his frame. He has the functional strength needed to create displacement in the run game and his anchor is firm in pass protection. Rushers won’t find success going through him. Robinson has powerful hands that stun his opponents and enable him to take control of reps. Overall, I like his attention to fitting his hands and competing for placement throughout every snap. He showcased good independent hand usage and the ability to vary his strikes. Robinson is effective on short pulls and he generally executes with good control by playing within his means.

Cons: Layden Robinson has tight hips and heavy feet which limit his range in the run game and presents some challenges staying square in pass protection. He is likely a scheme-specific, guard-only prospect. Robinson has modest length and he often has to work overtime to keep defenders out of his frame. He is guilty of some tardy responses/late recognition on twists and stunts which is notable given his lack of reactive athleticism and tightness in his lower half. I wish he had more of a mean streak to complement the power components of his game.
