Chris Murray 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Spent 2018 and 2019 at UCLA before transferring to Oklahoma
  • Four-star recruit from Mater Dei High School
  • Second-Team All-Big-12 (2021)

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Spread
  • 2022 projected role: Starting guard

Pros: Chris Murray is an experienced blocker that is entering his fourth season as a Power 5 college starter. While most of that time has come at right guard, Murray has logged nearly 200 snaps at center, which suggests he can offer some positional flexibility on the interior. Murray is a tenacious blocker that has an aggressive mindset in how he operates. He is a good athlete that has the movement skills needed to work laterally, slide his feet, and get into space with longer pulls and climbs to the second level.

Cons: Chris Murray has a stubby build with poor length. He is consistently outreached and defenders live in his pads. His lack of length and squatty frame makes it challenging for him to sustain blocks and he is easily displaced. He lacks ideal body control and weight distribution to find consistency with contact balance. Murray has been a productive college player but has an uphill battle at the next level given his limitations.
