Prospect Summary

Alex Forsyth 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Four-star prospect from ESPN and Rivals
  • Coaches’ All-Pac-12 second team (2020)
  • Has played four different spots in  his career (LG, RG, C, RT)

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Zone, spread
  • 2022 projected role: Starting OC in a zone scheme

Pros: Alex Forsyth is an experienced interior offensive lineman who possesses average size but good overall athleticism. A two-year starter at center for the Ducks, Forsyth has shown very good improvement with each game he has played. Forsyth displays good quickness off the snap and comes off the ball with good leverage. In the run game, Forsyth shows good quickness after the snap and initiates contact with quick and active hands. He is quick-footed and is able to win position and work angles to gain favorable positioning. He has excellent hand use and is able to win inside positioning and has strong hands to grip and steer. Forsyth plays with outstanding effort and consistently works to sustain blocks. He is a good athlete and works well in space and in the second level, showing good mobility to move on screens and the balance to land blocks while on the move. A very cerebral player, Forsyth handles all the calls pre-snap and is excellent at picking up stunts and games. An anchor of the offensive line, Forsyth had the intangibles that make him a coach’s dream.

Cons: Alex Forsyth is athletic and can excel in a zone scheme at the college level as he can consistently win with angles and positioning. That being said, things will be much harder at the next level as he simply lacks the power and size to move NFL-caliber defensive linemen at the point of attack. He gets inverted by power rushers and struggles to anchor against larger interior rushers. I question his ability to ever be a starter at the next level as his physical attributes leave a lot to be desired. However, I don’t question his heart, intellect, and technique.
