Rashad Torrence II 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Finished third on team in tackles (87)
  • Had three interceptions (2021)

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Scheme versatile
  • 2022 projected role: Starting safety

Pros: Rashad Torrence II is a versatile safety that aligns on all levels of the defense to make impactful plays. In the Gators’ defense, Torrence aligns as a box safety when they need an extra defender to play against the run. At this position, Torrence shows to be an effective tackler. Torrence also shows that he can run from depth to close on ball carriers to make tackles. This allows coaches to place him in multiple alignments knowing that he will be able to make plays from anywhere. Torrence also shows to be a high-motor player. There are numerous instances where he chases the play 20-plus yards down the field to make the tackle.

Cons: The question marks surrounding Rashad Torrence II as a player come from him appearing to be an above-average athlete. I question how fluid he is in the open field. Torrence’s movements appear to be segmented and hinder him from being a high-level man-to-man defender. Torrence appears to be more comfortable in zone coverage where he has the ability to look at everything and has the time to react. Torrence is a versatile defender that may have to become an elite technician in order to make up for his lack of overall fluidness in the open field.
