Trajan Jeffcoat 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Academic Standout
  • 2020 First-Team All-SEC
  • Three-star recruit from South Carolina

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: 4-2-5
  • 2022 projected role: Starting DE

Pros: Trajan Jeffcoat is a power rusher that features heavy hands and good length that enables him to compromise the width of the pocket. While he isn’t the most explosive threat off the edge, his ability to use a one-arm stab and power through the edges of blockers gives him appeal. Jeffcoat has also flashed inside rush moves, including a spin move, that can be effective. Jeffcoat has a thick and sturdy frame to complement his power style of play. He is a flashy run defender that has the power and contact balance to squeeze gaps and fight pressure with pressure.

Cons: Trajan Jeffcoat is a slow-burn pass rusher that doesn’t stand out in any particular way. He doesn’t showcase much in the way of explosiveness or twitch as a pass rusher. For a player that wins with power, his ability to convert speed to power is inconsistent and he needs to find more variety with his rush counters. Jeffcoat is up and down with his assertiveness to run to the football. Jeffcoat is slow off the ball and he needs to play faster to assert himself and dictate the action with more consistency.
