Deslin Alexandre 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Academic Standout
  • Did not play football until his junior year of high school
  • Was a standout basketball player prior to playing football

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Even front
  • 2022 projected role: Starting DE

Pros: Deslin Alexandre features a long and stocky build that is engineered for playing in the trenches in the NFL. He has some impressive moments of showcasing excellent functional strength at the point of attack and the ability to maximize his length by playing with extension. He has the power and mass to set firm edges and squeeze gaps. He has enough power to reduce rush angles and compress the width of the pocket. His best move is his rip move. Given his late start to playing football, there is some untapped potential. I love how urgent and physical of a player Alexandre is. His pursuit effort is outstanding and his motor is always cranked.

Cons: Deslin Alexandre is still developing as a processor in terms of diagnosing blocks and his responses becoming second nature. He needs to improve his play speed. It appears that there are times that he is thinking and doesn’t feel down blocks or reach blocks quickly enough and it leads to poor reps. If he can process more quickly and play faster, it would highly elevate his game. His hand technique and combating skills are potent but unrefined—there needs to be a more consistent plan and urgency to get to it. He is a bit of a short stepper, so learning how to use footwork to complement what he is capable of with his hands will make him more effective as a pass rusher. He will turn 25 before the start of his rookie season.
