Prospect Summary

Derick Hall 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Basketball player in high school
  • State 200-meter finalist

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: 3-4 base
  • 2022 projected role: Starting edge / defensive end

Pros: Derick Hall is a thick-framed edge defender. He generates good power from his lower half to anchor against the run. He is able to stress the outside shoulder of offensive tackles with his quick first step. Against Alabama’s Evan Neal, his first-step quickness was on display multiple times. Hall has fluid hips to swivel and square his path to the quarterback. He can be difficult to set from a wide angle. His athleticism allows him to align as an off-ball ‘backer and threaten the A-gaps as a blitzer.

Cons: Derick Hall is a powerful defender, but he is inconsistent with leveraging. His punches miss the proper landmark, creating easy access to his chest. He relies on his burst, bend, and power as a rusher. Therefore, his rush plan is quite limited. He lacks the technical refinement with his hand combat and counter skills.
