Jordan Burch 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Played basketball and football in high school
  • Highest rated recruit to sign with South Carolina since Jadeveon Clowney
  • Academic standout

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Blended fronts
  • 2022 projected role: Starting DE

Pros: From a physical traits standpoint, it’s easy to understand why Jordan Burch was such a highly-touted recruit. He features a well-proportioned frame that meets desired thresholds for an edge defender with plenty of length. He has impressive flashes of explosive athleticism and is the ideal package of size and athleticism. The Gamecocks have used him a variety of ways, including as a stand-up rush linebacker, hand-in-the-dirt even front defensive end, and he gets opportunities to reduce inside and attack interior gaps. He showcases firm hands and some impressive closing bursts to finish.

Cons: At this point, Jordan Burch is all tools but little impact and production on the field. He enters 2022 with just one start and a lot to prove. While he possesses all the physical upside needed to be a dynamic playmaker, it has to come together. He needs to showcase the ability to use his traits to make plays on the field. That starts with playing faster and being more assertive off the ball. He needs to develop his block-recognition skills, get stronger, and develop his rush plan. Everything with Burch right now is a projection as he’s yet to live up to his recruiting status.
