Felix Anudike-Uzomah 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • First Team All-Big-12
  • Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Scheme-versatile player
  • 2022 projected role: Starting DE

Pros: Felix Anudike-Uzomah has good explosion out of his hips that he uses in both the run game and pass rush. In the run game, he explodes out of his stance and engages with the offensive linemen to attempt to stalemate them at the line of scrimmage. He uses his explosive first step in his pass rush to get a jump on offensive linemen and immediately give himself a good angle to turn the corner and get to the quarterback. Anudike-Uzomah has the ability to dip and rip under offensive linemen while turning the edge, giving himself a direct angle to the quarterback. There were multiple instances where Anudike-Uzomah was able to quickly defeat offensive linemen and appeared to be a high-level pass rusher.

Cons: Felix Anudike-Uzomah has some athletic traits that could make him a high-level pass rusher, but he appears to still be very raw. When Anudike-Uzomah isn’t able to quickly win around the edge, he lacks a counter move to continue his rush. When offensive linemen can defeat his initial move, Anudike-Uzomah becomes stalled in his rush. As a run defender, Anudike-Uzomah appears to be undisciplined at times. Instead of playing proper lock-out and shed technique, he just launches himself into offensive linemen. By doing this, he often gives up gap integrity and appears to be lost. Anudike-Uzomah appears to lack the knowledge of basic blocks and how to defeat them. Anudike-Uzomah is a player with high upside and it appears that more experience will benefit him tremendously.
