Tank Bigsby 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • 20th in Auburn school history in rushing yards
  • Lettered in track and field in high school

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Gap/Power
  • 2022 projected role: Starting running back

Pros: Tank Bigsby is a tough and physical runner. He’s at his best when pressing north and south between the tackles. He punishes would-be tacklers when attempting to attack his upper body. He’s an explosive lateral cutter to exchange gaps/rushing lanes. With his plus vision, he identifies other viable creases and cutback lanes. He has loose hips to drop his weight when planting and cutting across the defense. His quick change of direction ability allows him to negotiate quick defensive penetration into the backfield. His patience shows on outside-directed runs like toss sweeps. Bigsby generates an explosive burst to spring through the first and second layers of the defense.

Cons: Tank Bigsby’s technique in pass protection must improve. Although he scans the LOS for potential threats, he tends to cut and lunge at his targets. His patience between the tackles can improve—he will jump-cut/bounce runs outside too quickly. His frame does not seem to be maxed out yet, as there is room to fill out. His lower body is slimmer, making him susceptible to cut and shoestring tackles. Bigsby has reliable hands but not enough opportunities to become a viable threat.
