Kenny McIntosh 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Four-star recruit
  • Top-10 ranking at RB nationally

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Power/Gap concepts
  • 2022 projected role: Rotational RB

Pros: Kenny McIntosh offers the prototypical frame of an NFL running back. He runs with patience and discipline to follow his blockers to daylight. Once he identifies an open crease, he showcases enough burst to reach the second and third levels of the defense. I was surprised how gifted of a receiver he was out of the backfield. McIntosh showed flashes as a downfield threat in the passing game. His ball skills and tracking ability are more than adequate. He has over-the-shoulder and a few one-hand receptions on his resume. Once he breaks the first layer of the defense, McIntosh has good vertical cutting ability to evade near defenders.

Cons: As a bigger back, Kenny McIntosh can run a bit high between the tackles. Improving his pad level will allow him to maximize his bigger frame running downhill. Despite the flashes of his receiving abilities, the opportunities were quite limited. He was firmly behind James Cook and Zamir White on the depth chart, limiting his snap count altogether. I would like to see him prove that he is capable of handling a heavier workload in 2022. Kirby Smart loves his run-by-committee approach, will McIntosh receive enough touches to elevate his draft stock ahead of next April?
