Ventrell Miller 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Two-time SEC All-Academic Honor Roll
  • Returning from an arm injury in 2021

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Scheme versatile
  • 2022 projected role: Starting inside linebacker

Pros: Ventrell Miller is an experienced inside linebacker for the Florida Gators. Miller uses this experience to read plays and react to get around the football. At the inside linebacker position, Miller is capable of reading through the traffic and making his way close to the line of scrimmage to make the tackle. In his career, Miller has seen many diverse run schemes and seems to use these experiences to quickly key and diagnose run plays. Another plus trait of Miller’s is his high motor. Miller does a good job of running sideline to sideline to make tackles on the ball carrier. Miller is a high-effort player that appears to be the leader of this defense and the Gators should be improved with a healthy Miller playing the inside linebacker position.

Cons: The downside to Ventrell Miller’s game are the parts that I’m not sure he can improve much on. Miller appears to be an average athlete for an inside linebacker position and it affects him in certain parts of his game. Playing the run, Miller shows the willingness to pursue ball carriers but he doesn’t have the overall athleticism to consistently make it to ball carriers to make the tackle. Miller’s lack of true athleticism also shows when he has to break down on ball carriers and match their movements laterally. It appears that Miller has limited short-area range due to some stiffness and it affects how well he can tackle in the open field.
