Jack Kiser 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background: 

• Ultimate multi-tool player in high school, passed for more than 3,000 yards and 59 passing TDs, rushed for more than 7,000 yards and 129 rushing TDs, and logged 424 tackles, 20.5 TFL, 20 interceptions, 32 PBUs, and blocked two punts at Pioneer High School
• 2018 IndyStar Mr. Football

System: 

• Scheme tendencies: Aggressive even front defense (expected under Al Golden)
• 2022 projected role: Starting ROVER linebacker

Pros: Jack Kiser will enter the 2022 season having served as a rotational linebacker for the Irish defense—his role similar to that of Nebraska’s JoJo Domann in the 2022 NFL Draft. Domann, like Kiser, was surprisingly fluid and rangy in space and zone drops and offered some good physical challenges on the football thanks to his burst in short spaces. I see plenty of the same from Kiser, who often aligned away from the formational strength to play in space and utilize his athleticism to attack the run from the backside or drop into landmarks from depth to play zone coverage. His starring play in 2021 came against the Wisconsin Badgers, getting in on a flurry of big defensive plays in the fourth quarter to help blow the game open. Kiser logged a 66-yard interception return for a score. I think this is a special teams contributor at the absolute worst at the NFL level and he should have a chance to add more to his plate if he can expand his skill set.

Cons: Jack Kiser is undersized as an athlete playing on the second level and he lacks the wingspan or mass to inspire that he can be a consistent presence to stack blocks and play effectively on the second level. Without that appeal in his game, he’s more than likely going to be pegged as a situational player only and the value of a coverage backer versus safeties and players with more variety on the early downs has the potential to negatively impact his stock. He’s not likely to evolve enough to change how he profiles as a defender in traffic and 2022 is going to be essential to showcase more layers to his game.
