Henry To’o To’o 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Lead team in tackles (113)
  • All-SEC Second Team

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Multiple fronts and alignments
  • 2022 projected role: Starting inside linebacker

Pros: There are many aspects to like about Henry To’o To’o’s play as an inside linebacker. To’o To’o shows to be a high-IQ football player in the run game in how he is quickly able to decipher through traffic and find ball carriers to make the tackle at or near the line of scrimmage. To’o To’o also shows to be a high-IQ player in his pass coverage. In zone drops, To’o To’o does a good job of reading the QB’s eyes and understanding route concepts to play the passing lanes and be disruptive. The other part of To’o To’o’s game that is impressive is his athleticism. To’o has the sideline-to-sideline speed to close on ball carriers quickly and make the tackle. To’o To’o looks to be a good linebacker who was very productive in his first year at Alabama.

Cons: To’o To’o’s deficiencies simply come from his lack of size. In the run game, at times, To’o To’o can be covered up by offensive linemen and struggles to immediately get off blocks. Teams that have downhill running attacks appear to frustrate To’o To’o because it puts him in confined spaces where he doesn’t have much room to operate and he has to deal with offensive linemen coming straight at him. To’o To’o appears to have great functional strength, he is just simply not the typical downhill thumper inside linebacker. To’o To’o is effective in that scheme but I believe he should be used in space where his range and natural instincts to make plays can stand out.
