Kedon Slovis 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • 2019 Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year
  • Began career at USC before transferring to Pittsburgh ahead of the 2021 season
  • High school football coach was NFL Hall of Famer Kurt Warner

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: New
  • 2022 projected role: Starting QB

Pros: Kedon Slovis thrives as a rhythm passer where his consistent mechanics, ball placement, and ability to quickly process coverage shines. He features an impressive ability to slot throws with good accuracy in the short-to-intermediate areas of the field. Slovis is tough in the pocket and is more than willing to hang in there and compete to deliver throws with things caving in around him. He never drops his eyes and is willing to stare down the barrel to find an available option. He showcases the ability to work progressions, scan the entire field, and make throws with anticipation. Slovis has enough mobility to occasionally scramble and extend plays although he won’t be confused as a dual-threat quarterback.

Cons: While Kedon Slovis is an accurate passer in the short-to-intermediate areas of the field, his ball placement becomes inconsistent when pushing the ball vertically. His arm strength is only modest and he lacks the velocity to consistently challenge tight windows and drive the football outside the numbers. Slovis is tough in the pocket but there are times when his process needs to accelerate to get the ball out of his hands and live to play the next down. I appreciate his willingness to give his targets chances to make plays on the football, but he isn’t immune to making risky decisions with the football.
