Anthony Richardson 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • All-SEC Freshman Team (2021)

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: RPO / QB Power
  • 2022 projected role: Starting QB

Pros:  Anthony Richardson appears to be one of the most toolsy quarterbacks in this draft. As a runner with the football, Richardson is a bruising type of rusher that will remind Gators fans of Tim Tebow and has the ability to dictate the tempo of games with his runs. But he also has the speed to run away from some defenders in the open field. As a passer, Richardson has a very strong arm. He has the ability to really drive balls down the field and at times it looks effortless. He throws with velocity across the middle of the field and can fit balls in tight windows. Richardson is a raw QB prospect, but if he can put everything together, he can become one of the best QBs in this draft.

Cons: Anthony Richardson is a physically dominant QB when he is running the football, but he needs to improve many facets of his game as a passer. Richardson has a strong arm but he needs to understand when to change the speed and trajectory of the football. On the deep ball, Richardson will drive the ball with a straight-line trajectory but sometimes he needs to give it more of an arc so the ball can drop in over the defensive back. He also needs to work on reading defenses pre-snap and post-snap. Defenses moving around post-snap seem to trick him at times and he will throw the ball right to a defender.
