Prospect Summary

Sevyn Banks 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Ohio State transfer
  • Two-year starter

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Can play both zone and man
  • 2022 projected role:  Starting CB

Pros:  Sevyn Banks’ plus traits start with his size. Banks is a tall corner that also appears to have great arm length. When Banks wants to disrupt receivers’ timing in their route, he can use his length to force receivers to have to alter their path. Banks also uses his length to attack the ball at the catch point. Banks has the instincts to punch through the receiver’s hands and knock the ball away, forcing an incompletion. Banks also appears to be a good athlete in a straight line. When receivers are running vertical routes, Banks does a good job staying in phase with receivers, making it hard for the quarterback to complete a pass.

Cons: For everything that Sevyn Banks appears to be athletically, there appears to be just one element missing from his game: Football IQ. There are multiple occasions where Banks is in a great position to deflect the ball or even intercept it but he doesn’t seem to locate the ball. This issue also shows in how he plays the run. Banks’ reactions are delayed, and oftentimes the ball carrier gets by him before he can put himself in a position to make a play. Banks has the athletic potential to be a high draft pick, but there appears to be an issue processing the game faster that plagues Banks from making dominant corner plays.
