Background:

  • Originally enrolled at Arizona as a walk-on in 2017
  • Transferred to Wyoming in 2019 where he was a three-year starter
  • Transferred to UCLA 2022

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Cover 1 and 3
  • 2022 projected role: Backup CB in a Cover 3 scheme

Pros: Azizi Hearn is a well-traveled prospect who will be suiting up for his third team this fall. Hearn has very good size for the position and is a good overall athlete. Hearn is best in man coverage where he is able to use his size and physicality to his advantage. He gets his hands on the receiver early on in the route and rides throughout the stem, disrupting route timing. He is a fluid athlete for a bigger corner who shows an ability to sink and change direction and the top of the stem. In zone coverage, Hearn displays good instincts and awareness and closes on receivers in his area. He is a physical player in the run game and is a good tackler.

Cons: Azizi Hearn is an older player entering the draft as he will be in his sixth year in college. Hearn is a reliable player in coverage but lacks the top-end athleticism to excel against receivers who are more explosive and fast. He lacks ball skills and struggles to locate the football in 50/50 and jump-ball situations. His transitions are staggered at times and he gives up separation to quicker receivers underneath.
