The Kansas City Chiefs are back. Andy Reid's Chiefs secured a thrilling overtime victory over their divisional foe Los Angeles Chargers under the bright lights of primetime on Thursday Night Football. The Chiefs accumulated an astounding 496 total yards of offense en route to scoring 34 points. Star tight end Travis Kelce was in typical form, which means he was virtually unstoppable throughout the contest.

Kelce secured an astonishing 10 receptions for a season-high 191 yards and two touchdowns. It was Kelce's first multi-touchdown performance since the season-opening defeat over the Cleveland Browns. The Chargers deployed several defenders in Kelce's direction in hopes of eliminating the six-time Pro Bowl tight end from Kansas City's offensive game plan but found no success within their attempts to slow him down.

Thursday's breathtaking performance saw Kelce cross the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the sixth consecutive season. To put Kelce's greatness into perspective, he's the lone tight end in history to achieve such a feat, with none of his competitors accumulating more than three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. In fact, no tight end in NFL history has ever strung together more than four individual 1,000-yard seasons. It's a statistic that accurately captures Kelce's greatness and ability to separate himself from his modern-day competitors.

Kelce is undeniably one of the greatest tight ends to ever suit up professionally and is trending toward possibly going down as the greatest of all time. His rare combination of size, speed, length, and ball skills have served Kansas City tremendously throughout the years. His latest accomplishment is a testament to not only his unique skill set but his impressive ability to stay healthy and available as well.

As of now, Rob Gronkowski is still largely considered the greatest tight end to ever play, and rightfully so. A five-time Pro Bowler, Gronkowski holds several impressive records of his own, including the most receiving touchdowns by a tight end in a single season with a staggering 17. Gronkowski has also experienced an unwavering amount of team success, both as a member of the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former Arizona standout has captured four Super Bowl titles while playing a clutch role in those triumphs, having caught the most career touchdowns in the postseason by a tight end (14). Kelce has a ways to go in those crucial areas.

If the former third-round pick keeps producing at this efficient rate for a little while longer while securing more Super Bowl appearances and titles alongside Patrick Mahomes, Kelce might earn the GOAT title. Kelce is a truly special talent and possesses the upside to one day surpass Gronkowski as the universally recognized greatest tight end of all time.
