With the Saints signing of former Pro-Bowler Jarvis Landry, they have solidified their position as NFC contenders. However, as New Orleans jumped ahead of the pack, other teams hoping to grab Landry after the Cleveland Browns released him were sent reeling and must quickly find other options at wide receiver. As the season quickly approaches, we will look at what teams still need a wideout and who fills their needs.

Baltimore Ravens

Though the Ravens hit home runs throughout the draft, their decision to not draft a receiver after dealing Marquise Brown seemed to hint to the team looking to free agency for their potential replacement. Before Landry’s signing, it was rumored that both parties had a mutual interest. After missing out on Landry, the Ravens’ current wide receiver starters are former first-round pick Rashod Bateman, former third-round pick Devin Duvernay, and day three picks Tylan Wallace and James Proche II. Though Duvernay was able to earn a Pro Bowl appearance as a returner, he has not been able to earn a consistent role in the offense and he must take a step forward for Baltimore to return to the postseason. With a need for a veteran presence in the room, Julio Jones is a perfect fit. Bateman can be a do-it-all receiver and with the speed and upside that Duvernay, Wallace, and Proche offer, a jump ball threat like Jones fits right in.

Chicago Bears

Quarterback Justin Fields’ rookie season was a roller coaster, to say the least, and first-year Head Coach Matt Eberflus’ defensive background adds more questions than answers in the windy city. Their draft did not do much to provide solutions, either. Though they were able to get talented defensive players like Kyler Gordon and Jaquan Brisker, they did not do much to help Fields going into his sophomore season. His starters at the moment are Darnell Mooney, Byron Pringle and Velus Jones Jr. All are solid options, but there is still a void at the position after losing Allen Robinson to the Los Angeles Rams in free agency. Mooney is primed to break out this year and adding veteran like wide receiver Will Fuller could ensure that Mooney and Fields become the franchise cornerstones that Chicago needs them to become. Fuller’s ability to get behind a defense will help take attention off Mooney and turn Chicago into an explosive offense like what Fields had at Ohio State.

New England Patriots

Bill Belichick’s draft class was interesting. He was able to grab quality players, but the value of where he got them is a different discussion. New England used their first two picks on offensive players, but their wide receiver room still has a lot of question marks. Their additions of Devante Parker via trade and Tyquan Thornton in the draft will help quarterback Mac Jones, but they still need help to keep up with the new-look Dolphins and Buffalo Bills. Enter Odell Beckham Jr. He was able to show that he still could get open following his midseason move to Los Angeles, and he would be a welcome addition in Foxborough. His versatility, combined with Parker’s experience and Thornton’s big-play ability, will put New England back on the track to compete for another division title.
