Is Tom Brady Not Mentioning Patriots In Retirement Statement Important?

The GOAT is officially hanging it up. After days of controversial deliberation, Tom Brady officially announced his retirement on Tuesday morning via a lengthy Instagram post. Brady's retirement was reported by several high-ranking media officials days ago, but Brady and his father Thomas Brady Sr. quickly debunked those whispers. It led to various "will he or won't he" discussions that could now be promptly put to bed. The 2022 NFL campaign won't feature Brady, and that's a tough pill for many of us to swallow. Brady thanked several members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers throughout the nine-page post, including the Glazer ownership family, general manager Jason Licht, and head coach Bruce Arians. Brady also offered his thanks to Buccaneers fans around the world, the city of Tampa and the St. Petersburg region, his long-time trainer and business partner Alex Guerrero, and his agents Don Yee and Steve Yubin. Notably absent from Brady's thank you post are Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick, and the New England Patriots organization as a whole. It's worth noting Brady already said his goodbyes to the organization when he departed in March of 2020, but leaving them out of such a notable retirement post altogether certainly qualifies as somewhat odd and peculiar given what all parties involved achieved together over a historic 20-year run. Brady is extremely self-aware and undoubtedly realized that the absence of gratitude shown toward the Patriots organization would stir up controversy and lead to heated discussions and debates. Rumors of a messy breakup between the two sides loomed large leading up to Brady's official departure in free agency two years ago, and it appears some of those hard feelings may continue to live on. The Patriots were quick to celebrate Brady’s career with a thankful social media post of their own. Many will brush this aside as a non-issue, but essentially spending an entire retirement post commenting on the final two years of a 22-year career is certainly eyebrow-raising. At the end of the day, it qualifies as odd but also as a situation worth passing over in favor of celebrating Brady's illustrious career. Brady now gracefully enters retirement after capturing an astounding seven Super Bowl titles, five-time Super Bowl MVP, three Most Valuable Player honors, and 15 Pro Bowl appearances in addition to countless other record-breaking achievements that qualify as unfathomable. Brady's 20-plus year period of dominance was truly rare and generational in a world where those words are sometimes used recklessly. In Brady's case, they are extremely fitting, well-deserved, and well-earned. There will truly never be another.
