The list of talented wide receivers participating in the 2022 Senior Bowl runs deep. But after the first full day of practices, Nevada’s Romeo Doubs stood out as the most appealing blend of size, speed, and positional savvy. Doubs’ good start at the Senior Bowl began with the weigh-ins when he checked in at 6017 (essentially 6-foot-2) and 204 pounds. For comparison purposes, the Los Angeles Rams’ triple-crown receiver Cooper Kupp is 6-foot-2 and 207 pounds. Doubs’ arms are more than 32 inches long and he has mitts for hands (10 ⅛”). Physical profile? Check. In Tuesday’s practice, with a combination of Pitt’s Kenny Pickett, Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder, and his own Carson Strong throwing to him, Doubs was smooth as silk. He made plays during a variety of drills, and while it’s still early in the week (wide receiver play will improve as timing with quarterbacks progresses), there’s no doubt he’s in the mix to be the best overall skill player on either roster. But there’s no doubt Doubs helped his draft stock, which currently stands as the No. 20 wide receiver in TDN’s latest 2022 NFL Draft rankings. Those same rankings have fellow Senior Bowl receivers Khalil Shakir, Calvin Austin III, Alec Pierce, and Jalen Tolbert currently slotted ahead of him. Assuming Doubs can carry his day-one momentum through the rest of the week, it’s safe to bet he’ll make a charge up the board.
