According to multiple reports, Tennessee Titans star running back Derrick Henry suffered a serious foot injury in Sunday's thrilling overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts. It represents a catastrophic loss for a team that currently holds the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in the AFC through eight games. Reports regarding Henry's timeline to return are wide-ranging, varying from eight weeks to season-ending. While we await more information on the severity, we do know that the Titans will be without Henry for the foreseeable future.

The news has surely left general manager Jon Robinson and head coach Mike Vrabel scrambling for solutions in an attempt to keep their season from spiraling out of control. The Titans will almost certainly add a running back to their roster, as the current depth chart is made up of primary pass-catching back Jeremy McNichols, return-man Dontrell Hilliard, and undrafted free agent Mekhi Sargent. With the NFL trade deadline set to come-and-go on Nov. 2, here are three running backs the Titans could look to acquire.

MIKE DAVIS, RB, ATLANTA FALCONS

A former fourth-round selection, Davis signed a two-year deal with the Falcons this past offseason in hopes of finally becoming a lead back. It hasn't quite gone to plan, as Davis has been lapped on the depth chart by the surprising return to form of Cordarrelle Patterson. Davis has totaled just 258 rushing yards and a lone touchdown in seven appearances.

What could make Davis somewhat appealing to the Titans is the system he currently plays in. Falcons head coach Arthur Smith served as Tennessee's offensive coordinator a year ago and helped install the zone-based run system the Titans and Henry have had so much success with in recent years. Davis could come in and pick up the playbook almost immediately.

ADRIAN PETERSON, RB, FREE AGENT

Undoubtedly one of the greatest ball-carriers of all time, the 36-year-old Peterson is reportedly traveling to Nashville on Monday to meet with the Titans. Peterson last played for the Detroit Lions in 2020 as a member of their running back by committee operation, and totaled an impressive 604 yards and seven touchdowns while appearing in all 16 regular-season games.

The NFL's fifth all-time leading rusher has reportedly stayed in excellent shape in hopes of finding another opportunity in 2021. The Titans would represent the ideal opportunity for the future first-ballot Hall of Famer to add even more merit to an already decorated resume. In Tennessee, Peterson would run behind an excellent offensive line that is currently playing at an extremely high level. The Titans will have several opportunities to add a running back in the coming days, but an agreement with Peterson currently appears the most likely.

PHILLIP LINDSAY, RB, HOUSTON TEXANS

A former 1,000-plus yard rusher in back-to-back seasons (2018-19), Lindsay has seemingly fallen out of favor with Houston's coaching staff in recent weeks. Lindsey hit rock bottom in Sunday's loss to the Rams, trailing the 31-year-old Rex Burkhead and sophomore undrafted free agent Scottie Phillips for touches in Houston's muddy backfield.

The Texans may be hesitant to move Lindsay within their own division, but at 1-7, would have little reason to refuse future draft capital in exchange for Lindsay. The Titans are reportedly exploring multiple scenarios via both the free agent and trade market, as they should, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Lindsay should be high on their list of potential candidates.
