Week 11’s edition of Monday Night Football is an NFC battle between two teams currently occupying wild-card spots, the 6-3 Los Angeles Rams and the 7-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Rams responded to their pre-bye loss to the Miami Dolphins by besting their division rival Seattle Seahawks last week. The Buccaneers responded to their worst defeat of the season by thrashing their division rival Carolina Panthers. Sound similar?
After an exciting Sunday slate, bettors still itching to wager on the NFL can get their fix again tonight. So what should we expect on Monday Night Football? What is the best bet? Let’s take a look. All odds are courtesy of our friends over at BetOnline.
Spread: LAR: +4.5 (-108) | TB: -4.5 (-112)
Moneyline: LAR: (+190) | TB: (-220)
Total: 48 – Over: (-110) | Under: (-110)
We can’t begin to discuss this game without talking about defense. The Rams and the Buccaneers came into Week 11 ranked in the top three in total defense—Rams at No. 2 (296.4 yards allowed per game) and Buccaneers at No. 3 (300.3). Tampa Bay leans on a league-best rushing defense, while Jalen Ramsey and Co. bolster a No. 3-ranked passing defense for Los Angeles.
Offensively, the Rams are ranked seventh and are pretty balanced in terms of yardage. The Buccaneers are leaning on Tom Brady and the passing game for production, as a consistent running game has eluded them—although they have been able to take advantage of bad rush defenses.
All in all, this is a really exciting, close matchup that may come down to the proverbial turnover battle. I have more faith in Brady to navigate the rough waters of the Rams defense than I do Jared Goff against the Buccaneers’ defenders. Couple that with Tampa Bay also being at home and I think they overcome their primetime woes. However, the spread is not something I’m actively targeting, so consider wagering on some player props instead.
