The battle between the team with no running backs and the team with no players takes place as the centerpiece of sports programming on Thursday night. The Green Bay Packers, likely down their top-three running backs (pending the status of Aaron Jones), take on a San Francisco 49ers team without their QB1, RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, TE1, CB1, LT1, and top pass-rusher, just to name a few.
So what will happen when these two NFC teams meet? Let’s get into the game. All odds are courtesy of our friends over at BetOnline.

The 49ers have fought through injuries all season and have a respectable 4-4 record to show for it. However, at some point enough is enough, and that tipping point might’ve come in last week’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks—a game in which starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and star tight end George Kittle each suffered major injuries. Four days after those injuries and a 10-point defeat, the 49ers host the Packers following their fairly-embarrassing loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
COVID-19 protocols and an already injured starting running back leave the Packers with a razor-thin running back room. For Green Bay to get back on track and avoid losing for the third time in their last four games, it will have to be the Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams show. There aren’t many better duos to rely on, however, and given how banged up San Francisco is, they may be all Green Bay needs to get by this week.
The 49ers are just too banged up for this game. While Nick Mullens isn’t a huge downgrade from Garoppolo in theory, if he plays like he did the last time he started this season he will be. The Packers need this game and they have Rodgers—that’s enough for me despite San Francisco’s top-five pass defense. Go small, but take the Packers.
