5 Active NFL Head Coaches Who Warrant Hall of Fame Consideration

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is reserved for the NFL’s greatest legends. It’s a temple of gridiron glory reserved for the best players, coaches, front office executives, and those who’ve impacted the game in incredible ways. There are several active NFL head coaches who appear destined for a gold jacket. Here’s a list of candidates who could one day don a gold jacket because of their success on the sidelines.

Bill Belichick

A six-time Super Bowl champion, Belichick could go down as the best to ever do it. The leader of the New England Patriots’ two-decade-long dynasty, his mentorship of Tom Brady during their six title runs, and the establishment of the ‘Patriot Way’, became a copy-cat formula for the NFL. His gold jacket is already being tailored.

Mike Tomlin

Fifteen consecutive winning seasons is impressive enough to qualify Tomlin. He’s evolved into one of the game’s greatest leaders, and his undeniable passion exudes through the way he prepares his players every week. The 2022 season – his first without Ben Roethlisberger – will be his toughest test yet, but if there’s any coach who can find a way to win with a rookie quarterback, it’s Tomlin. At only 50 years old, Tomlin has many seasons left to build on his already worthy resume.

Andy Reid

Following a slew of success with the Philadelphia Eagles (1999-2012) that included four NFC championship game appearances and a Super Bowl berth in 2004, Reid’s offensive-minded approach has led the Kansas City Chiefs to a .710 win percentage in nine seasons including six consecutive AFC West titles, four-straight AFC Championship appearances, and a Super Bowl victory in 2019.

Pete Carroll 

Pete Carroll’s ballot will come with debate, but at the end of the day, he should end up with a bronze bust. Carroll has led the Seattle Seahawks to five NFC West titles and a Super Bowl championship. He’s qualified for the playoffs in nine of his 12 seasons. Like Tomlin and Belichick, his toughest test comes in 2022 without Russell Wilson. How he fares without his franchise quarterback could be the deciding factor in his case for Canton. 

John Harbaugh

Owner of the most road playoff wins (8) in NFL history, Harbaugh belongs in the Hall of Fame conversation. The 2019 Coach of the Year, Harbaugh brought a Super Bowl title to Baltimore in 2012 and has four AFC North titles on his resume. The Ravens have made the playoffs in nine of his 14 seasons on the job. At just 59 years old, Harbaugh will continue adding to his long list of coaching accomplishments.
