According to multiple reports, the Cleveland Browns are considering all options regarding the future of wide receiver Jarvis Landry. Landry will turn 30 years of age during the 2022 campaign and the Browns can create $14.9 million in cap space by trading or releasing him. The former LSU standout remains a high-level player that would command the slot position for various other teams across the league.

A three-time 1,000-yard receiver, Landry recorded career-lows in receptions (52), yards (570), and receiving touchdowns (2) while struggling with injury in 12 regular-season appearances in 2021. Don’t be fooled by the lack of impressive production this past season. Landry is an expert route-runner that provides quarterbacks with a safe and reliable sure-handed option underneath. The ability to design touches for Landry further opens up the playbook.

The Browns must acquire several high-quality receivers this offseason, and moving on from Landry would create an additional hole at a position that already promises turnover. With that said, the potential to create so much extra financial breathing room by moving on from the aging Landry qualifies as particularly tempting for general manager Andrew Berry as he attempts to retool and improve a roster that disappointingly missed the postseason in 2021.

We’ve identified three potential fits for Landry.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

We wouldn’t be surprised if Chiefs general manager Brett Veach aggressively attempts to acquire Landry’s services. Kansas City’s offense has lacked a legitimate No. 2 receiver for several seasons now and the time to finally address the position has mercilessly arrived.

The Chiefs can no longer rely on Mecole Hardman, Demarcus Robinson, and Josh Gordon to play second fiddle to Tyreek Hill. The presence of Hill and Travis Kelce has allowed the Chiefs to conveniently ignore the need to upgrade the position in the past, but Veach should search for a worthy enhancement this offseason.

The gap between the Chiefs and the rest of the AFC has seemingly closed. Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Chiefs at Arrowhead to advance to Super Bowl LVI. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills pose an annual threat to the Chiefs’ standing at the top of the AFC mountain. The Denver Broncos acquired Russell Wilson on Tuesday in a blockbuster deal that further shakes up the landscape of the AFC, and promises to threaten Kansas City’s AFC West divisional title hopes.

The Chiefs can no longer simply lean on what they’ve already built offensively. They must improve, and Landry would provide them with an injection of talent.

TENNESSEE TITANS

Titans general manager Jon Robinson re-signed outside linebacker Harold Landry to a sizable five-year contract extension on Tuesday evening while managing to keep Landry’s 2022 cap hit just a shade over $5 million. It’s a shrewd detail that should allow Robinson to turn his attention to the pursuit of offensive upgrades. Tennessee’s defense is stout and well taken care of with the retention of Landry, and the rest of Tennessee’s offseason focus will center around the offensive skill positions.

The lack of a reliable third-pass catcher crippled Tennessee’s 2021 offense at times as the freshly-acquired Julio Jones struggled to remain healthy and on the field through Tennessee’s short-lived postseason run. Jones’ lengthy spell on the sidelines forced starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill to rely upon the likes of Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Geoff Swaim, Anthony Firkser, Dez Fitzpatick, and Chester Rogers in the pass-catching department throughout crucial stretches of the season. Jones isn’t a lock to make the 2022 roster, and the Titans must find more appropriate running mates for the consistently excellent A.J. Brown.

Ryan Tannehill and Landry spent four healthy seasons together with the Miami Dolphins. The pair would love to reunite in Tennessee as the Titans prepare to revamp and improve the wide receiver room this offseason.

NEW YORK JETS

Jamison Crowder and Braxton Berrios are both scheduled to become unrestricted free agents next week and both players are expected to depart the Jets in search of greener pastures. Berrios is reportedly searching for an especially lucrative contract that might price itself outside of general manager Joe Douglas’ comfort zone. Both Crowder and Berrios are predominantly utilized as slot receivers, and their leave would create a sizable hole for the Jets at the slot receiver position.

This offseason is all about surrounding Zach Wilson with more talent at receiver and tight end while also improving the protection in front of him. The Jets made a large investment in Wilson when they decided to draft him with the No. 2 overall selection a year ago, and they must now take the necessary steps to guarantee his development.

Placing Landry in the slot of their offense would provide Wilson with a much-needed check-down option underneath. Landry is the type of talent that makes a quarterback’s life more manageable, and young signal-callers always benefit from playing alongside that type of teammate. Adding Landry to a core that already includes Corey Davis and Elijah Moore would shore up New York’s receiver corps in 2022.
