Fantasy Football Week 1: Best WR Values On OwnersBox

The preseason is over. Kaput. New this year is an extended break between the end of the preseason and the start of the regular season, which just gives us more time to set our Week 1 lineups for optimum production. The key to finding that lineup sweet spot in any salary cap tournament is identifying value plays at every position that allows you to save your bankroll to splurge on stars.

While many will choose to pay the price to roster some of the top wide receivers, OwnersBox’s SuperFlex format forces fantasy players to be a bit more strategic with two FLEX spots in addition to a SuperFlex. Since you’ll likely want to play several receivers each week, you’ll need to pinch pennies somewhere. Let us help.

Here are three value plays at the wide receiver position that you can start either at WR or FLEX as you build your Week 1 lineups. If you haven’t signed up yet, playing on OwnersBox is simple! Visit OwnersBox.com or download the OwnersBox app on iOS or Android and use the promo code Drew9 today and you'll get a free $10 entry into the $100K NFL Week 1 Contest. Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR - DET)

$3100 vs. SF

Somebody has to catch passes for the Lions, right? Tight end T.J. Hockenson isn’t catching 150 balls this season, so someone in Detroit’s receiving corps will need to step up. My favorite is the rookie St. Brown, who the Lions took in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s made a noticeable impact in training camp and is poised to be the Lions’ starting slot receiver (even if Kalif Raymond also spends some time there).

The 49ers were fairly poor against slot receivers last season, allowing the eighth-most fantasy points per game to them in 2020. Considering the Lions should be playing from behind in this game, St. Brown should be open often as a short-to-intermediate option for Jared Goff. At just above the minimum price, St. Brown will easily outperform his salary-cap cost.

Marvin Jones (WR - JAX)

$4100 @ HOU

Jones is my favorite fantasy sleeper in season-long formats and DFS. New Jaguars offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell is quite familiar with Jones from their time together with the Lions. In Jones’ two years with Bevell, he received a 19.69% target share—and that’s playing alongside Kenny Golladay the majority of the time, a caliber of pass-catcher the Jaguars don’t currently have. I expect Jones to be heavily involved in the offense on a team that will be forced to throw a lot. Plus, the Texans allowed the seventh-most fantasy points per game to wide receivers last season and didn’t really improve their secondary this offseason. Jones could be in line for a monster game in Week 1.

Rondale Moore (WR - ARI)

$3300 @ TEN

While the starting slot job isn’t yet guaranteed to Moore (hello, Christian Kirk), his usage this preseason—and deliberate lack of usage in Arizona’s third preseason game—is a sign that he’ll have a fairly significant role pretty early this season. While there is obviously some downside here, take advantage of Moore while he’s fully healthy and he has a great matchup.

The electric rookie pass-catcher gets to face off against a Titans defense that allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to wide receivers as a whole last season and the third-most points to slot receivers. He should thrive against Tennessee’s secondary while also getting some manufactured touches behind the line of scrimmage.
