The Jacksonville Jaguars and linebackers are a combination that has had a long-lasting relationship since the creation of the franchise in 1993. Recently, the notable names have included Telvin Smith and Myles Jack. Both are unique in their own ways, but the Jaguars have had plenty of consistency on the second level of the defense. With the team set to open practice this week, another player at the position has created buzz for himself because of his namesake.

Former Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses is a prospect that has been in the spotlight since he was in eighth grade, as he was labeled as being the next great athlete out of the state of Louisiana. After being an LSU lifer, he surprisingly chose to spend his college career at an in-conference foe. As a 5-star recruit and one of the highest ever to set foot in Tuscaloosa, he got off to a hot start during his first two seasons.

Experiencing adversity prior to his junior season, Moses tore his ACL prior to the Week 1 matchup against Duke in 2019. Devastated by the news, he returned the following season. However, many scouts agreed that he didn’t quite look like the same player post-injury. Playing through another undisclosed injury during his final season at Alabama resulted in him surprisingly going undrafted. Luckily for him, he enters a similar situation that a new teammate once experienced during his draft process.

Coming into the 2016 pre-draft process, Jack was viewed as one of the top linebackers of the class, but a torn meniscus suffered during the earlier portions of the season gave many teams pause. Selected by the Jaguars in the second round, he’s gone on to have a respectable career thus far. Even though Moses’ draft slot is vastly different, he has someone in the same room as him with a similar skill set to lean on for advice on what lies ahead.

Moses is a physical and high-intensity linebacker that has plenty of lateral range when he’s able to see and attack plays cleanly. Now fully healthy, and with Jack and Joe Schobert in place, there won’t be a rush to thrust Moses into action immediately.

Considered a high-quality undrafted free agent signing, the Jaguars can remain patient with Moses in hopes of him returning to his pre-injury form as the player that was once highly touted coming into college.
