Quarterback Tom Brady opened up a lot of doors for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and in exchange, they’re opening up a lot of receivers for him. On Tuesday, the Buccaneers agreed to terms with wide receiver Russell Gage on a three-year, $30 million deal, per source. It conceivably makes him their WR3 and takes him away from the division-rival Atlanta Falcons.

Tampa Bay’s wide receiver room now reckons to be Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Russell Gage, Scotty Miller, Tyler Johnson, Jaelon Darden, and Cyril Grayson. They also have Travis Jonsen signed to a futures contract and Breshad Perriman on a one-year deal that’s still active from 2021.

Gage had a decently productive season in 2021 for Atlanta, helping to fill in for Calvin Ridley’s absence on a team that was already missing Julio Jones, who had departed for Tennessee via trade last offseason. Gage ended the year with 66 receptions on 94 targets for 770 yards and four touchdowns. That puts him at a 70.2% catch rate on the season. He went over 100 yards in two games, the first ironically against the Buccaneers in Atlanta during Week 12—Gage caught 11 of 12 targets for 130 yards. He also finished the season with a 100-plus yard game. In the Falcons’ 30-20 loss to the New Orleans Saints at home, Gage caught nine of 13 targets for 126 yards and a touchdown.

That clearly was the right note to end on and may have earned him his next contract.

Gage is a guy that runs all over the route tree and should complement both Evans and Godwin especially well as a result. A Bruce Arians offense is going to Bruce Arians offense, always.
