Who doesn’t love drafts? The NFL Draft is awesome, but in this post, we’re talking about fantasy football. Specifically, we’re ranking the top 250 players in best-ball leagues. If you already play best ball, keep scrolling for my updated rankings. If you’re not sure what best ball is, read on.

Best ball is the hottest fantasy football format right now. Fantasy managers draft their team, and that’s it. No need to worry about setting lineups; the system does it for you. Following the slate of games, the highest-scoring players are automatically slotted into your starting lineup. In most best-ball leagues, there are no defenses or kickers. A downside is there are typically no transactions, though some leagues have modified this. Still, the roster depth of most leagues tends to offset most in-season issues.

From a strategic standpoint, this places more value on players with higher ceilings. For example, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams had a roller coaster of a season in 2021. He posted seven games of eight or fewer points in PPR formats, which isn’t good. However, he had eight games of 16+ points, five of which eclipsed the 22-point mark. You would’ve been greatly rewarded for Williams’ huge weeks in best ball. For his down weeks, teams that rostered Williams had anywhere from, say, four to seven other receivers to fill Williams’ void at no penalty. It makes targeting players with higher ceilings over players with higher floors the better strategy in best ball. Of course, it’s wise to roster both types of players, and you’ll see a good mix of both in my top-250 best-ball players for the 2022-2023 NFL season.
