Week 5 of the college football season has concluded and there were plenty of notable name prospects that had standout performances. With my eyes glued to the TV over the weekend and the remote getting plenty of work as I flipped back and forth between the action, my notepad collected plenty of information on multiple sheets of paper about players that helped themselves. Emptying my notes, there were four players that helped their draft stock the most on Saturday.

Devonte Wyatt, IDL, Georgia

Georgia’s defense is on a historic pace and has all-time great potential if they keep on their current trajectory. After a dominant performance against Vanderbilt, they blanked what was believed to be one of the hottest teams in the country in Arkansas. A big reason behind that has been the play of interior defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt. While Jordan Davis and Adam Anderson are the names that get a lot of the notoriety, Wyatt has arguably been the program’s best defensive lineman this season. Finishing Saturday’s game with six tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks, Wyatt has continued to improve during his career with the Bulldogs.

Drake London, WR, USC

Week in and week out, Drake London has put together dominant performances despite playing with different players under center. Surpassing 100 receiving yards in all but one game this season (Stanford), London has proven to be the Trojans’ top receiving threat despite what’s happened to the program over the past month. London is a big-bodied target that creates easy wins at the catch point. With the NFL having mixed reviews on receivers of his type in years past, London’s stock and draft slot will be something to monitor in the coming months.

Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh

In what’s been an underwhelming group overall, one quarterback prospect that’s having a rare senior breakout season is Kenny Pickett. He has been on fire over the past three weeks. Collecting 14 touchdown passes in that span, which broke the previous program record (13) set by Dan Marino in 1981, Pickett looks to be much more confident in his perimeter weapons this season. Showing more poise and accuracy than previous years, he’s on track to be the thrower that teams fall in love with on Day 2 of the draft. He’s a prospect that I can’t wait to see up close in a postseason all-star game setting to see if the next level of his development remains consistent even though he has unfamiliar surroundings.

Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE, Michigan

Aidan Hutchinson continued to look like a first-round selection through the first quarter of the Wolverines’ schedule. Despite garnering extra attention and eyes, he’s managed to catapult himself into contention as arguably the top defender in the country. His hand maturity, determination to get to ball locations, and ability to finish have all shined this season. A similar story occurred on Saturday against Wisconsin. As opponents struggle to figure out how to block him, he’s the type of player that maintains his play effort throughout the entirety of the game. First-round picks should look like first-round picks on a week-to-week basis. Hutchinson is one of the few that can be labeled as an easy Day 1 selection next spring.
