LSU Tigers defensive lineman Tyler Shelvin is reportedly opting out of the 2020 college football season, according to Sports Illustrated. Shelvin is the second big-name LSU player to opt out of the season since Sunday (Ja'Marr Chase).

Shelvin played 13 games for the Tigers last season, racking up 39 total tackles (three for loss) and two pass breakups. He had nine tackles (1.5 for loss) and 1.5 sacks in four games as a freshman in 2018.

Earlier this month, notable names like Miami Hurricanes EDGE Greg RousseauPenn State Linebacker Micah ParsonsVirginia Tech CB Caleb FarleyMinnesota WR Rashod BatemanPurdue WR Rondale MoorePitt Panthers DL Jaylen TwymanMichigan OL Jalen MayfieldWake Forest WR Sage SurrattUSC DL Jay Tufele, and Northwestern OT Rashawn Slater opted out of the 2020 season with sights set on the 2021 NFL Draft or simply declared because their conference postponed the season. On Sunday LSU teammate Chase opted out along with Memphis Tigers RB Kenneth Gainwell.

Shelvin recently came in at No. 32 on the TDN Top 100 big board. Here are some excerpts from his scouting report. You can read the full report here.

PROS: Powerful and massive run defender that isn’t easily moved. Anchor is stout and he dominates single blocks and holds his own against doubles. Clogs up the interior, eats space and keeps the second level clean. He’s a load to move and he thrives in tight space. Dominates in a phone booth. Does well to play with good leverage and extension, making him a viable candidate for two gapping duties as a nose tackle.

CONS: Value on passing downs doesn’t extend beyond pushing the pocket at this point. Has not shown much in the way of pass rush variety or the ability to work to the edges of blocks.
