Myles Brennan 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Sixth-year senior (Two season-ending injuries)
  • Threw for 400 yards against Missouri in 2020

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Spread / RPO
  • 2022 projected role: Starting QB

Pros: Myles Brennan has had a rough start to his career but a few games in 2020 showed a lot of promise. Brennan looked to be a poised quarterback in the pocket that comfortably got through all of his progressions. When he gets to an open receiver he has a quick release and is capable of delivering an accurate pass. Brennan is capable of making throws to all levels of the field, working the short, intermediate, and deep areas. Brennan seems to be confident in his arm and is willing to take risks to thread the needle on some passes. Brennan had an exciting start to his 2020 season before his injury. If Brennan can pick up where he left off, he should be one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football this season.

Cons: While Myles Brennan is comfortable in the pocket, there are times that he seems to be too relaxed. His clock appears to be too long and he hangs in the pocket way past the three seconds that quarterbacks are usually afforded in pass protection—this usually results in sacks or turnovers. Brennan should not be mistaken for a mobile QB, but he needs to find a way to manipulate the pocket and escape. This movement should help Brennan escape sacks while also extending the play so he can possibly make a big throw down the field.
