The New York Giants are an unmitigated disaster. Big Blue is unfortunately experiencing yet another ineffectual campaign in 2021. Head coach Joe Judge recently fired offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and further changes are likely coming in abundance this offseason. General manager Dave Gettleman's contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season and he's unlikely to continue in that role. Gettleman has largely failed to turn this Giants team around and has almost certainly run out of time to do so.

Several drastic changes are on the horizon, both via the front office and on-field personnel. For starters, regarding the latter, current quarterback Daniel Jones lacks the appearance of a true franchise signal-caller and may be the first notable casualty as the team ushers in a new era.

Gettleman drafted Jones with the sixth overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft with the hope that the former Duke standout could successfully succeed all-time great Eli Manning. That is not the case, and with a new general manager likely taking the reins from Gettleman, they'll plausibly want to hand-pick the team's next signal-caller. With a relatively weak quarterback draft class incoming, the Giants may choose to explore what could be a red-hot trade market.

They should look no further than Russell Wilson.

The face of the Seattle franchise since entering the league way back in 2012, Wilson may realistically find himself donning new colors in 2022. Rumors swirled regarding the possibility of a breakup between the two parties just months ago due to disagreements regarding the direction of the franchise. If the soon-to-be-33-year-old-Wilson was previously considering swapping Seattle for greener pastures, a losing campaign in 2021 is unlikely to change his mind.

Few suitors possess the type of draft capital it would require to pry Wilson out of Seattle's grasp, and New York happens to be one of few franchises that are set up handsomely in that department. The Giants currently project to hold not one, but two top-10 picks in the upcoming draft. New York continues to lose and hone in on a top-five selection of their own, and the pick they acquired in last year's draft-day blockbuster that allowed the Chicago Bears to move up and select Justin Fields currently projects as the eighth overall selection. It would take more than two first-round picks for New York to acquire Wilson, but these two high-end selections represent an ideal starting point for discussions to be viewed as fruitful for both sides.

If the relationship between Wilson, head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider further deteriorates, the likelihood of Wilson playing elsewhere in 2022 only intensifies. If such a situation were to unravel, whoever is calling the shots for what's sure to be a new-look Giants front office and team should strike quickly in their pursuits to acquire a difference-maker at the quarterback position. Wilson is one of few quarterbacks rumored to be available that could legitimately change the trajectory of a lowly and disappointing Giants team. It’s time to get bold.
