According to multiple reports, wide receiver Josh Reynolds asked for and was granted his release from the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday afternoon. Reynolds agreed to a one-year deal with the Titans in the offseason and was hoping to replace Corey Davis as Tennessee's No. 2 receiver. General manager Jon Robinson later acquired future Hall of Fame pass-catcher Julio Jones just a few weeks later and Reynolds quickly fell down the depth chart.

Things went from bad to worse for Reynolds, who totaled an impressive 52 catches and 618 receiving yards in 2020. An Achilles injury kept Reynolds out for the majority of the month of August and robbed him of an opportunity to get acclimated to his new team. Reynolds was ultimately passed on the depth chart by the likes of Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Chester Rogers, and Marcus Johnson, who all continue to garner more snaps in Tennessee's offense than Reynolds has.

Reynolds' tenure as a Titan has now officially come to an end after just five appearances and 10 receptions for 90 yards. Reynolds is now subject to the NFL waiver claim process and any claiming team would owe him just $500,000 for the remainder of the 2021 campaign. With that in mind, these three teams should submit claims in hopes of securing Reynolds' services.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Although the Saints are rumored to have entered the Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes, the likelihood of them actually landing the three-time Pro Bowl receiver seems unlikely given the stiff competition they’ll face from better teams with better quarterback situations. A struggling New Orleans passing offense suffered even more setbacks in recent weeks when two-time first-team All-Pro wide receiver Michael Thomas was shockingly and unexpectedly ruled out for the remainder of the season. With backup quarterback Trevor Sieimian now under center in the wake of the season-ending injury to Jameis Winston, general manager Mickey Loomis and head coach Sean Payton need to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of offensive improvement.

If claimed by New Orleans, Reynolds would join a receiver room that lacks high-end talent. The likes of Marquez Callaway, Tre'Quan Smith, Kenny Stills, and Deonte Harris currently make up New Orleans' four most potent receivers. Reynolds would immediately compete for snaps in an offense that needs more production from its passing game.

DETROIT LIONS

Although Reynolds may prefer to join a playoff contender with a better quarterback situation, the Lions could make sense for several reasons. Reynolds, who is scheduled to hit free agency for the second consecutive offseason at the conclusion of this campaign, needs to partake in some damage control if he hopes to enhance his reputation and land a more lucrative contract in 2022. Reynolds would immediately compete for targets in Detroit's passing offense.

Should the Lions submit a claim for Reynolds, they would automatically be granted his services, seeing as they currently hold the No. 1 spot in the waiver order, which is determined by the current NFL standings. Routinely playing from behind, only six NFL quarterbacks have attempted more passes in 2021 than Lions starter Jared Goff (308). Opportunity would be plentiful for Reynolds in Detroit, and he'd be joining a receiver room that badly needs an injection of talent.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Kansas City will certainly have more interest in landing Beckham Jr., but there is a connection here worth noting. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach actually pursued Reynolds in the offseason, but the former Texas A&M receiver opted to join the Titans instead. Reynolds almost certainly regrets that decision now based on how things played out in Tennessee, but the Chiefs now have a second opportunity to land a player they showed interest in signing just months ago.

The Chiefs have disappointed their rambunctious fan base thus far in 2021, but are currently embarking on a two-game winning streak that has seen them firmly place themselves back in the thick of things in the crowded AFC playoff picture. Should they fail to land Beckham Jr., Reynolds wouldn't make for a bad consolation prize for an offense that badly needs more reliable playmakers at the receiver position.
